Modifier Keys: Modifier keys are simply dependent keys that can serve various functions when used together with other keys. The numbers 8,4,6,2 on the numpad also serve as navigational arrows when the Num Lock is on. Navigation Keys: The arrow keys allow us to navigate any section of the computer, serving a function similar to the mouse. ‘Num Lock’ will disable the numerical feature of the numpad, while the ‘Scroll Lock’ will lock down the scrolling ability. For example, ‘Caps Lock’ will enter all alphabets in the capital format. Toggle Keys: There are three toggle keys that will lock up certain features when they are pressed. Each of these keys serves a specific purpose, such as refresh or developer tools, and can also be used with a combination of other keys. These include the space key, enter key, backspace key, windows key, escape key, and delete key.įunction Keys: Typically, there are 12 function keys that are situated on the topmost section of the keyboard. Special Keys: These are special keys that provide unique and varying functions. Additionally, most keyboards also provide a separate numpad on the keyboard’s right end. There are a few arithmetical symbols situated (-, +) on the right side of the numbers. Number, Symbol Keys & Numpad: These are ten numerical keys from 0 to 9, which can also serve as various symbols when used with the “shift” button. Some of these keys include comma, colon, period, etc. Situated right next to the alphabet keys are the punctuation keys. They are as follows:Īlphabet & Punctuation Keys: These keys are typically the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet arranged in the QWERTY format. A typical keyboard features certain categories of buttons.
